Naga Chaitanya's latest film, Thandel, which also stars Sai Pallavi, is set for its digital release after a successful theatrical run. Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, the movie is inspired by true events and tells the story of a fisherman caught in a cross-border conflict. While the film performed well in the South, it faced challenges in the Hindi and Tamil markets.
Now, with a significant deal for its streaming rights, Thandel is all set to make its debut on Netflix.
When and Where to Watch Thandel
Thandel will be available on Netflix starting March 7, 2025. The film will be accessible in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The OTT version will include additional scenes, including extended sequences set in a Pakistani jail, which weren’t part of the theatrical release.
Plot and Official Trailer
Thandel follows a fisherman whose life changes drastically after he accidentally crosses into international waters and gets detained in Pakistan. The trailer highlights a gripping narrative full of romance, patriotism, and high-stakes drama.
Cast and Crew
Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, Thandel features Naga Chaitanya in a role quite different from his usual urban characters. Sai Pallavi stars as the female lead. Produced by Allu Aravind, the film had a budget of ₹100 crore.
Reception and Box Office Performance
The film earned ₹100 crore at the box office with ₹68 crore in share earnings. Its performance in the North, despite Aamir Khan's promotion, was underwhelming. However, the film's streaming rights were sold to Netflix for ₹55 crore, ensuring a significant return for the makers. The digital release is expected to expand its reach to a larger audience.
